Description
Chess is a two-player abstract strategy game played on a checkered board with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid. Each player begins the game with sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king by placing it under an inescapable threat of capture.
Players alternate turns moving one piece at a time (with the exception of castling). Movement is dictated by the type of piece. The game continues until one player checkmates the other player's king, a player resigns, or a draw is declared. Chess is renowned for its strategic depth and tactical complexity.
