Planet Unknown puts you in the role of galactic corporations tasked with making a newly discovered planet habitable. The central element of the game is a rotating space station containing various resource tiles. Players simultaneously select tiles from the station to add to their personal planet boards, carefully managing resource placement to activate planetary infrastructure and score points.

The game features asymmetric player powers and unique planet layouts, offering a high degree of replayability.
